Hoarfrost Media

PHASE 1

About Hoarfrost Media

A local news website and podcast covering Petawawa and the upper Ottawa Valley, funded by the advertising it sells directly to local businesses.

PHASE 2

Who we are

A small newsroom workspace with monitors and notes used by the Hoarfrost Media team

Hoarfrost Media began publishing in 2019 as a small local news website covering Petawawa town council, the wider Renfrew County area and the civilian economy that surrounds Garrison Petawawa. A podcast followed two years later, giving the same reporting a spoken form for listeners driving between Pembroke and Deep River.

Today the site and podcast run as one masthead, operating as CANADIAN MILITARY FAMILY MAGAZINE LTD.. Our focus stays local: council decisions, business openings and closures, community events, and the seasonal rhythms of a region shaped by the Ottawa River and the Algonquin edge.

Advertising is how the operation stays independent of any single funder. The three placements on our rate card are booked directly with our advertising desk, separately from the newsroom that writes our articles.

PHASE 3

What we do

Hoarfrost Media publishes local news articles on our site, produces a seasonal podcast, and sells advertising space across both. What's included in that advertising offer:
